Barbara Harmon
Barbara is a biological and medical illustrator, splitting her time between Cape Cod, MA and Ocala, FL, serving primarily the Boston area but also many national clients.
Barbara's experience includes being a staff member for two museums and two teaching hospitals; she has operated her business as an independent contractor serving the fields of publishing, education, museum exhibits, and advertising, since 1991. Her talents are evident in both traditional “board art” (watercolor, gouache, airbrush, pen and ink, scratchboard, colored pencil, oil, acrylic), as well as digital, through the use of Adobe (Photoshop, Illustrator) and other software. A Master’s degree in Medical Illustration (University of Illinois at Chicago) and a Bachelor’s degree in both Zoology and Fine Art (University of California, Berkeley) have provided her with the basics of the academic and technical tools she applies in creating her vivid images.
Most recently, Barbara Harmon won both the People's Choice (Ralph Sweet) Award at the Association of Medical Illustrators' Annual Meeting (Portland, OR, 2010) as well as Best in Show at the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators Annual Meeting (Raleigh, NC, 2010).
